Windows 7 Activation Backup and Restore
In last months we got fever with Windows 7. Its preorders beats even Harry Potter’s on Amazon. All users are pleased with this new Windows OS System. It is more beautiful, runs faster, requires less hardware than Vista,… I managed myself to get a version of Win 7 before it goes to stores and then show it to my cousin. My cousin always tell joke that Bill Gates changes the GUI of Windows, makes it more beautiful and … call it new version of Windows. And sometimes I see he’s right. Windows 7 runs really faster than Vista, it’s more beautiful and that’s all. 
). You know that is joke, don’t you? ).
I did not spend any time to find out the changes between Windows 7 and Vista so I do not know what’s new in this Windows. What makes me interesting is how to back up my Windows activation. As you know, we can activate our Windows as many time as we want as it states in this Windows FAQ:
Q: How many times can I install Windows on my computer before I have to activate Windows again?
A: You can reinstall Windows on the same computer as many times as you want because activation pairs the Windows product key with information about your computer hardware. If you make a significant hardware change, you might have to activate Windows again.
I used this license key for my virtual machine too. And I remembered that I activated my virtual XP OS so many times that I could not activate it anymore. Therefore I decided to achieve the activation pairs of Windows 7 and restore it again when needed without connecting to the service of Microsoft. According to me, it is really silly that we can not activate our Windows because we have activated it so many times.
I used tool of tvbusy to backup and restore activation key pairs. You can download it as following link (modified by rongchaua on 28.01.2010 to update CD Key search algorithm)

It is pretty easy to use. Press backup Button to save all necessary information to file. Store this file somewhere on internet. And restore it when you reinstall Win7. It can not be more simple and we can reinstall our windows as many times as we want without being afraid of activation process.

I tried the tool on a HP Pavilion DV6-1340EO, Windows 7 64-bit, but with no success. I made a backup of the cert and key, made a clean install with a Windows 7 OEM 64-bit DVD (same language as the original), and reapplied the cert and key. It now says that I have 30 days until it has to be activated. How could that be?
@Bill and Anders: I am making contact to the author of this tool for fixing bugs (if exists). The original article for backing up and restoring (manually) license was written in Vietnamese http://www.updatesofts.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187818&highlight=windows+activation. And tvbusy wrote a program to alleviate the process, so we just wait for his feedback.

@Bill and Anders: I think the problem must have been caused by an issue with getting CD-Key of Windows 7.
My tool use the same routine to get Windows 7 CD-Key was KeyFinder.
Users of KeyFinder reported an issue with KeyFinder always return “BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB” as the CD-Key.

I’ll update the tool to not use the CD-Key if the real CD-KEY was not really retrieved and update you when it’s done.

Because there is no feedback anymore from author therefore I decided to update this tool myself. I have updated the algorithm for getting Windows Key as his suggestion. Please try with new version on the links of post.
Tried the updated tool on Windows 7 x64 Pro, but it’s not working. It returns BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB as the Windows key.
All Windows 7 versions are supported. Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, etc, supported.
